NOLA Day Number Two

Sunday was still windy, but it had died down enough and I needed to get out on the water looking for big reds. The conditions were awful – muddied up water from wind over the last few days and still 10-15 winds.

I was staying in town, but we were fishing out of Pointe a La Hache. Pointe a La Hache sits about an hour south of NOLA in an area surrounded by a tremendous back country area for multiple species. Weather permitting, it’s a great sight casting area. Don’t try to fish it without a guide because 5 minutes off the ramp, I couldn’t have found my way back.

After a long and frustrating day of blind casting, we finally saw a big red near shore with it’s fin slightly above the water. Long cast into the wind, slow tease and hooked it. Such a fun fish to grab.

I missed my normal breakfast in NOLA which is always a visit to Commander’s Palace. Old, historic charm with great food and an awesome Bloody Mary to recover from the night before!

I will be heading up to NOLA again, hopefully in March, weather permitting. There are a couple of species (Black Drum, Flounder) that I want to round out my NOLA experience plus I’d like to catch a Bull Red almost double this size.

Weather and offshore conditions permitting, as well as the state of the fishing, I might head out to the wrecks/towers to see what’s near the surface or what we can bring up. I will need a 10-12 weight out there.

Short Wrap Up: Head to NOLA – EAT WELL, Enjoy the Vibe and catch some fish.
